Research into the Possibilities of Establishing Multicultural Societies in the Asia Pacific Region:
Conflict, Negotiation, and Migration

Today's globalized world has witnessed astonishing political and economic growth in the regions of Asia and Africa. Such progress has been accompanied, however, with a high frequency of various types of conflicts and disputes. At the Afrasian Research Centre, we conduct interdisciplinary, integrated research and education in area studies with a focus on peaceful resolution to conflicts. Our aim is to develop a broad understanding of such conflict. Ryukoku University has a tradition of doing research on Buddhist cultures, and has worked to develop the discipline of inter-civic relations, pursued Asia-Africa area studies, promoted understanding of foreign cultures, and carried out exchanges with domestic and foreign research institutions. These are the five basic areas in which we implement our action research and education on peaceful resolution of conflicts.
